Coldplay dropped the music video for their latest single “Everyday Life” on Monday (Dec. 9) after premiering the clip on a South African TV channel.

Filmed in disparate locales, from South Africa and Morocco to the Ukraine, the clip opens with a voice-over explaining the meaning of the South African term Ubuntu. “So Ubuntu is a Xhosa langua-, a word…It means ‘humanity,’ direct translation. So basically, you’ll always need the next person. You know what I mean? So one hand washes the other; so the one hand does need the other hand to be clean. …That is Ubuntu, to help others — your brothers, your sisters, even when they are strangers and you don’t know them, you are supposed to help them. That is Ubuntu,” narrates an unseen man before the song’s violin intro kicks in.

“What in the world are we going to do?/ Look at what everybody’s goin’ through/ What kinda world do you want it to be?/ Am I the future or the history?” frontman Chris Martin croons on a sun-dappled beach as dancers and children from various cultures flash across the screen.

“Everyday Life” serves as the title track to the band’s eighth album and first in nearly four years since 2015’s A Head Full of Dreams. While the introspective ballad follows dual lead singles “Orphans” and “Arabesque,” Everyday Life bowed at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 upon its first week of sales.
