Coldplay singer Chris Martin will mentor the American Idol top seven next Sunday (May 9) in an episode centered on his band’s music. The show, which will air at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, will feature performances from the show’s semi-finalists and Martin, plus the live debut performance of Coldplay’s new single, “Higher Power,” which is due out on May 7.

The two-hour episode will have the singer’s pay tribute to their mom’s first with a Mother’s Day tune, followed by Martin getting in the room with Chayce Beckham, Caleb Kennedy, Grace Kinstler, Casey Bishop, Willie Spence, Hunter Metts and last season’s returning aspirant Arthur Gunn. Martin will help the contestants prep their Coldplay covers for the night’s second performance.

Before they play “Higher Power” for the world for the first time, Coldplay gave a sneak peek at the song on TikTok over the weekend. In videos of the snippet of the Max Martin-produced pop tune, Chris Martin sings, “I got my hands up shaking just to let you know/ That you’ve got, a higher power/ Got me singing every second…” over a bouncy, keyboard-heavy arrangement.

The preview comes after Coldplay stoked excitement about their ninth studio album last week via a worldwide viral campaign called AlienRadio. At press time no further information was available about the album.
