Charli XCX is gearing up for a special celebration as her fourth studio album, How I’m Feeling Now, turns five this Thursday (May 15). The anniversary coincides with a viral resurgence of the track “party 4 u,” prompting the artist to announce a brand-new music video for the song.
In a sincere handwritten note shared on Instagram Wednesday (May 14), Charli reflected on the album’s creation, admitting it “honestly just feels like yesterday” since its release in 2020. “So much has changed since then: me, my life, elements of my music and most definitely the world,” she wrote.
The singer recalled making the album entirely during the COVID-19 lockdown, crafting it from scratch in just five weeks — and doing so openly with fans. “I made the album in just five weeks, from conception to release, entirely publicly in collaboration with all of you,” she said. “It was so special. I felt like I rediscovered myself, my sanity + my sense of connection with the world, at a time where we were all so alone.”
Although How I’m Feeling Now wasn’t a major commercial hit — peaking at No. 111 on the Billboard 200 — it became a cult favorite among her fanbase, earning affection for its rawness and experimental style. This LP preceded her massive success with 2024’s critically acclaimed album Brat.
Lately, however, one track in particular, “party 4 u,” has found new life. The song unexpectedly climbed into the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2025 — five years after its release — powered by viral momentum on TikTok. As of the May 17 chart, it reached a new high at No. 55.
Responding to the track’s renewed popularity, Charli announced a music video for “party 4 u” on social media Wednesday, posting a close-up video of her eyes along with a teaser of the song. She captioned it: “5 years later… the party 4 u video. tomorrow.”
This follows a recent TikTok post where she ran through an empty street holding pink balloons — a visual nod to a lyric in the song. In her handwritten message, the Essex-born singer teased the moment further: “I really can’t believe that 5 years later one of the Angel favorites is having its own special moment.”
“So obviously I wanted to do something to celebrate…” she added. “This one’s for you Angels.”
This milestone arrives shortly after Charli performed at Coachella 2025, where she included “party 4 u” in her Weekend 2 set. During the previous weekend, she brought out special guests Lorde, Troye Sivan, and Billie Eilish to perform their “Brat” remixes: “Girl, So Confusing,” “Talk Talk,” and “Guess.”
Charli recently wrapped a four-night run at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center as part of her Brat Tour and is now preparing to launch the European leg, beginning May 31 in Poland.
