James Corden took a field trip to Las Vegas on Monday night’s (May 20) Late Late Show prime time special, cruising down the Strip and singing “Viva Las Vegas” like no one was looking. But something was missing. So he picked up Celine Dion — ravishing in a silver checkered suit and an oversized gauzy blue scarf — who was on her one day off a year from her residency.

To James’ delight just about everything he said inspired a bit of song from the global superstar. “I live where my heart is,” she said when Corden asked if she liked living in Vegas, busting out a bit of “My Heart Will Go On,” followed by “Two Broken Hearts,” “I’m So Excited” and Rihanna’s “Work” when he joked about his pipes bursting at home.

Finally, Corden got what he wanted: a duet on the dramatic, “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” complete with a tender seat-belted embrace, an unexpected smooch and a special command performance for some randoms on the Strip. One song Celine was not ready for was “Baby Shark,” which she didn’t seem to know, but somehow managed to turn into a mega-anthem, complete with chest thump.

They ran through all the ones you want, including “Because You Loved Me” and “I Drove All Night.” “And, in case you were wondering, Celine has around 10,000 pairs of shoes in a warehouse space and a computerized shoe sorting system in her Florida home. No big deal. To her consternation, her assistant coordinated a shoe give-away, which drove the singer nuts, but made some tourists super happy.

Of course they had to sing Dion’s Titanic hit “My Heart Will Go On,” but Corden thought they needed a fittingly spectacular venue: a replica of a ship’s bow in the famous Bellagio Hotel and Casino fountain. With the fountain spray framing them in their Jack and Rose costumes, the pair crushed it to the delight of the crowd on the street.
