Calvin Harris Says EDM ‘Doesn’t Have Anything in Common With the Music I Love to Make’

If there’s a reigning king of electronic dance music, it’s got to be Calvin Harris. The “We Found Love” producer topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid DJs for the sixth year in a row, and he did it without taking any gigs outside his Las Vegas residency. He’s just a production powerhouse, with feature credits that include the biggest stars in pop, hip-hop and R&B. Still, he’d rather you not confuse him for an “EDM” producer. He’s moving in a direction that’s pure house.

“EDM has been sad, slow songs for years now,” Harris tweeted on Monday (Nov. 12) after a fan asked him if he would be “going back to EDM” at some point. “Doesn’t have anything in common with the music I love to make. 2010-2014 edm was more house influenced to me. Anyway now I’m out the bubble and making big records with amazing singers that sound like house music to me.”

Harris must be stuck in traffic or find himself otherwise bored, because he’s answering quite a few fan tweets. The sad news is, Harris has no plans to release a full-length house music album, and he isn’t planning to return to the live-band format of his earlier years. The good news is: Harris is a cool dude who doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously. See some of his fan interactions below.
