BTS’ ‘Butter’ Holds Atop Songs of the Summer Chart, The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Continues Record Run

BTS’BTS’ “Butter” maintains its reign atop Billboard’s Songs of the Summer chart (dated Aug. 21).

Plus, The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” adds to its record run on the ranking, as it continues as the only song ever to have appeared on the chart in two distinct years.

The 20-position Songs of the Summer running tally tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 from Memorial Day through Labor Day (this year encompassing charts dated June 12 through Sept. 11). At the end of the season, the top song of the summer will be revealed.

“Butter” keeps at No. 1 on the Songs of the Summer chart over a steady top five, followed by Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U,” Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” featuring DaBaby, Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More,” featuring SZA, and The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s “Save Your Tears” at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively.

Plus, The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” continues its unprecedented appearance on Songs of the Summer, as it holds at No. 15. The single has spent a record 24 weeks on the survey, and with 15 of its frames totaled on the tally in 2020 and nine this year, it is the only song ever to make the chart in two distinct seasons, having hit a No. 2 high for seven weeks last year.

As previously reported, “Lights” logs a record-breaking 88th week on the Hot 100, among its numerous chart achievements.
