Bruce Springsteen visited Jeremy Allen White, who was portraying a young ’80s-era Springsteen, on the set of the upcoming biographical film Deliver Me From Nowhere.
The two were photographed in Bayonne, New Jersey, on Monday as White, in character, and director Scott Cooper filmed a scene at what appeared to be a car dealership parking lot. Springsteen and White were seen embracing and admiring classic cars, including a Chevrolet Z28 Camaro, which Springsteen has mentioned as the first car he ever owned.
White is playing Springsteen during the period when he was recording his 1982 album Nebraska. The film is primarily being shot in Springsteen’s hometown of New Jersey and in New York, with some additional filming taking place in Los Angeles. Deliver Me From Nowhere, produced by Disney’s 20th Century Studios, is slated for release next year.
A first-look image of White as Springsteen was shared last week, showing The Bear star dressed in Springsteen’s iconic flannel shirt and leather jacket. On set during Springsteen’s visit, White wore a similar outfit, while Springsteen sported a red-and-white-checked peacoat, a cream-colored scarf, and sunglasses.
Springsteen and his longtime manager, Jon Landau, are both deeply involved with the project. In May, Variety reported that Succession actor Jeremy Strong was in talks to portray Landau.
“It is a once-in-a-lifetime honor to be collaborating with Bruce Springsteen, an inspiring and incomparable artist who represents so much to so many,” said David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, in a statement when the film was announced. “The deep authenticity of his story is in great hands with my friend Scott Cooper, whom I am thrilled to be working with again.”
