Britney Spears’ powerful statement during a court hearing on her longtime conservatorship was a red-hot talking point on social media.

On Wednesday (June 23), the pop star appeared before a Los Angeles judge overseeing her 13-year-long conservatorship, and in doing so delivering a speech that was both fiery and shocking.

It would seem, the whole world was watching on.

More than 1 million tweets about Britney Spears were shared on Twitter’s platform in 24 hours, say reps for the social media giant. Also, over 500,000 messages were posted using the #FreeBritney hashtag, and upwards of 150,000 tweets used #BritneySpeaks.

The United States, Brazil and Argentina were the territories generating the most tweets about Brit, according to Twitter.

Among the most shocking details that emerged from the session at Los Angeles Superior Court, Spears said she wants to get married and have a child, but she has an IUD and she can’t get permission to see a doctor to have it removed. Over 50,000 tweets mentioned “IUD” in a 24-hour span, Twitter reports.

The 39-year-old “Toxic” singer spoke publicly to the court for the first time since her conservatorship began in 2008, and she didn’t mince her words. “I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m OK and I’m happy,” Spears explained. “If I said that enough, maybe I’d become happy. … I’m in shock. I’m traumatized. … I’m so angry it’s insane.”

The controversial conservatorship held by her father Jamie Spears must end, she remarked. “I am not here to be anyone’s slave.”

Justin Timberlake was among the thousands who threw support behind the artist and mom. “After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time,” Timberlake tweeted about his ex. “Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was… what’s happening to her is just not right.”
