K-pop quartet Blackpink are back today (April 4) with their highly-teased new single “Kill This Love.”
Their first song of 2019, “Kill This Love” is a stomping, brassy electro-pop track that fronts the act’s second EP of the same name.
The powerful, accompanying video for “Kill This Love” features the quartet — Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé — plotting the demise of romance while vacillating between ultra-futuristic and classically-influenced imagery, with crowns, gowns, stained glass, sophisticated streetwear, and Tomb Raider-esque looks making appearances.
Thematically, it features a variety of weapons, ranging from a car driven with intent to kill to a giant hunting trap the group dance’s within. All the while, the foursome fiercely deliver up dramatic verses and raps. The song notably features several lengthy all-English verses, a stylistic shift from the act.
“Kill This Love” was released at midnight in South Korea on Friday (April 5), and at 11:00 a.m. EST on Thursday (April 4); the album will be available on April 5 worldwide. The new song’s releases comes just a few weeks before the girl group hits up both weekends of this year’s Coachella amid the North American leg of their In Your Area world tour.
The Kill This Love EP will also include “Don’t Know What to Do,” dubbed the album’s “subtitle track,” and a remix of last year’s hit “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.”
Ahead of the music video’s release, “Kill This Love with Blackpink” trended worldwide on Twitter, and after it came out, “Jisoo” also joined the worldwide trends as fans around the world reveled in the member’s role in the song and video.
