Bebe Rexha romanced The Tonight Show with a raw string-backed rendition of “Knees” from her album Expectations on Thursday night (Dec. 20).
The 29-year-old pop singer — wearing a Marilyn Monroe-esque ensemble composed of a sparkly floor-length gown, blonde bob and dark red lips — opened on a stage draped with pink curtains. Her three violinists and cellist — wearing matching glittery getups — led her into the opening verse: “Sittin’ in a parked car/ We don’t even fight no more/ We don’t even touch no more/ Used to be my best friend/ We don’t even laugh no more/ Barely even talk no more.”
Her smokey voice grew brighter on the chorus: “If I’m not all you need/ Then just set me free/ I’m down on my knees/ If you’re not the one for me/ Then just let me be/ I’m begging you please.”
The disco ball above Rexha lit up and spun, and soon after a curtain behind her dropped to reveal a wall covered in lights.
