We’ve only just reached April, and yet Ariana Grande has somehow already claimed 2019 as her year. With the bombshell success of her latest album Thank U, Next and her domination on the charts, Ariana has plenty of reasons to be grateful. Now, she’s paying it forward with the help of her longtime collaborator Victoria Monét.
Grande and Monét released their brand-new track “Monopoly” on Monday (April 1). The bopping song shows the duo swearing off negativity and basking in their own confidence, claiming their success like properties from the song’s eponymous board game. “Bad vibes, get off of me/ Outta here with that fuckery/ Treat my goals like property/ Collect them like Monopoly,” the pair sing.
The video for the track aims for the same vibe, showing Grande and Monét dancing around on a rooftop, each equipped with their own camcorders. Throughout the video, the duo parody Twitter memes, with the two tossing away text like “haters,” “negativity” and even “Trump,” while taking in good vibes like “healing,” “loyalty” and “light.”
Both Grande and Monét tweeted out that the song was meant to serve as a “thank you” to their fans; the pair worked together in writing two of Grande’s biggest hits this year, “Thank U, Next” and “7 Rings,” along with a number of other songs on both Sweetener and Thank U, Next. “MONOPOLY (a thank you to them fans) is out now!” Monét wrote on Twitter. “@arianagrande and I appreciate you so much and really fuck with the support you’ve given in all forms! Go jam out.”
