“There is another sport whose timeless emotions ignite the bittersweet memories that live inside my soul and in the octagon,” Grande’s Dion says.
Ariana Grande showcased her impersonation skills during her recent hosting of Saturday Night Live. On October 12, she humorously imitated Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Gwen Stefani in her opening monologue. Additionally, she nailed a parody of Celine Dion in a sketch titled “Celine Dion Sports Promo,” referencing Dion’s recent NFL promo.
In this pre-recorded sketch, Grande, as Dion, humorously sings about her love for football to the tune of her 1996 hit “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” Grande’s version features Dion’s distinctive French Canadian accent, stating, “Football connects who we are to who we were.” She humorously adds that football isn’t the only sport tied to memories, leading into a UFC-themed rendition of the song with cheeky lines about “breaking bones” and “knees to the balls.”
The episode also saw Stevie Nicks return to SNL as a musical guest for the first time since 1983, performing her new song “The Lighthouse” inspired by Roe v. Wade, alongside her classic “Edge of Seventeen.”
You can watch the “Celine Dion Sports Promo” sketch on Peacock, which also allows access to past SNL episodes.
