Following weeks of fan speculation that Ariana Grande is gearing up to release a music video for her Eternal Sunshine track, “The Boy Is Mine,” with Penn Badgley as the star — the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer seemed to confirm the suspicion with a cryptic social media post.
In a TikTok video Grande posted on Monday (June 3), Badgley is seen awkwardly dancing along to the song’s chorus — complete with a ton of hip shaking and shimmying from the You actor. The video doesn’t have a caption, adding to the mystery of it all.
Despite not getting a clear answer, Grande is just days away from releasing the “Boy Is Mine” music video on June 7.
Last week, Grande posted a mysterious picture of what appeared to be the ingredients for a love potion with a partially obscured hand-drawn portrait. While the portrait isn’t the clearest, some fans saw the figure’s brunette curls as a sign that Badgley will star as Grande’s love interest in the upcoming video, which will be directed by Christian Breslauer.
Should that be the case, Badgley would follow Evan Peters (“We Can’t Be Friends”), Charles Melton (“Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored”) and Matt Bennett (“One Last Time”) as the latest actor to play opposite Grande one of her music videos.
As fans await Grande’s “Boy Is Mine” music video, the Grammy winner is enjoying the sustained success of Eternal Sunshine — “We Can’t Be Friends” recently became her 10th chart-topper on Pop Airplay — as she gears up for the release of the first part of the long-awaited Wicked movie musical, in which she will star as Glinda the Good Witch opposite Cynthia Erivo‘s Elphaba.
