A Sun Sentinel article from Oct. 10, 1998 has resurfaced thanks to the famous face in its accompanying photo: young Ariana Grande, at age 5, who unfortunately got struck by a hockey puck not once, but twice, that season. “Boca kid gets a puck and ice,” the headline reads. “5-year-old fine after being struck 2nd time.”

“A real cutie in her red Panthers jersey, tiny Ariana Grande-Butera attracts plenty of attention when she sits in the first row behind the penalty box. Attention from the officials, from the players, from fellow Panther fans,” the report goes on to say. “But the 5-year-old Boca Raton kid, who has gone to just about every home game since she turned 2, also attracts pucks. Yep. Hockey pucks.”

The article then descibes two separate incidents in which little Ariana was hit by a puck — once on her right wrist, and then again on her left. “Diagnosis: Just a small bruise.”

Grande joined everyone else sharing the now-viral clip this weekend, joking in a Sunday (Feb. 10) tweet, “started from the bottom now we here #thankunext.”

“if i’m honest ….. this is still exactly what i look like without lashes and my pony ….. anyone who knows me knows me knows ….. like …. i’m twenty five. i was five here. the only difference now is that hand now says bbq grill finger,” she said.

The singer, whose Sweetener was just announced as best pop vocal album award winner at this year’s Grammys, then acknowledged a complimentary tweet from her mom, writing: “queen of being partial and kind to me bc she gave birth to me and using stan twitter lingo i love u.”
