One sleep till “Oh Santa!” Ariana Grande took to social media on Wednesday (Dec. 2) to share her excitement about her upcoming Christmas collaboration with Mariah Carey and Jennifer Hudson via some memery.
Jumping on board the bandwagon for the popular “how it started, how it’s going” meme floating around Twitter, the singer dug up an old tweet to prove she’s been a lifelong Lamb.
“How it started / how it’s going #ohsanta friday @mariahcarey @iamjhud,” Grande captioned a side-by-side of her 2011 tweet, which reads “@Mariah Carey I love you. :]” and a promo photo of herself and her two fellow superstars dressed up in festive, coordinated green ensembles. Best flex ever!
For her part, Carey also shared the promo tease for the collab on Twitter, writing, “MC x AG x JH #OhSanta” alongside a color version of the same photo Grande shared and a series of microphone and Santa emojis.
The trio’s long-awaited holiday collab — a girl group-inspired reworking of Carey’s 2010 single — is set to drop at midnight on Friday (Dec. 4), just hours before they’ll debut the track on Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special on Apple TV+.
From the very beginning of her musical career, comparisons have been drawn between Grande and the Elusive Chanteuse for their melismatic vocal stylings, sky-high range and penchant for employing whistle tone. Upon releasing her 2014 debut album, Yours Truly, the former Nickelodeon star was particularly heralded as “the next Mariah” by fans and critics alike thanks to the LP’s throwback, ’90s-inspired sound and the then-20-year-old’s jaw-dropping vocal gymnastics.
