“Finish the Hit” is back in action for a second season as Billboard hits the streets of New York City to find out just how well people know the lyrics to some of music’s biggest songs.
This week’s episode dedicated to Ariana Grande, who was announced as Billboard’s 2018 Woman of the Year on Tuesday (Nov. 6). To celebrate her receiving the honor, host Jake Cornell set out to test people on their knowledge when it comes to “God Is a Woman,” “No Tears Left To Cry,” and “Side To Side.”
Kicking off with “God Is a Woman,” Cornell prompts a group of people with the line, “And I, I feel it after midnight, a feeling,” which results in an accurate, color-coordinated sing-along, while another contestant finishes a different line from the song with a catchy freestyle rap of his own.
When it comes to “No Tears Left To Cry,” one girl is asked to finish the line, “Right now, I’m in a state of mind/ I wanna be in, like, all the time.” While the correct response would be “Ain’t got no tears left to cry,” she answers, “I wanna be in the golden times,” while another participant attempts a response of “I wanna be by your side…if you leave me you’re gonna regret.”
People are then quizzed on “Side To Side” lyrics, including “I’ve been here all night/ I’ve been here all day,” to which one stumped person simply shouts, “Ariana!”
