Ariana Grande has apologized for making an insensitive joke about the murdered child beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey.

The pop star’s contrite response comes after she was heavily criticized for a now-deleted Instagram post about Ramsey, the six-year-old who was killed in her family’s Colorado home back in 1996.

The scolding started on Sunday when Grande’s friend Doug Middlebrook shared a snap of the late youngster on a newspaper cover, accompanied with the caption: “No one has done more covers.”

The “7 Rings” singer commented on the photo, “i cant WAIT for this to be your halloween look,” to which Middlebrook responded, “working on it already.”

Grande was slammed on social media for her inappropriate comment, to which she later tweeted, “yeah no i deleted it very quickly and understand that it’s not at all funny. this was out of pocket and i sincerely apologize.”

Many fans and followers felt it was too little, too late. “No baby that comment was up for a day and you’re just now apologizing because you got called out. this ain’t it sis,” wrote one Twitter user with the handle Divine Sabs.

No one has ever been charged in the Ramsey murder case and the investigation is still unresolved.

Grande, meanwhile, is back in promo mode. On Monday she dropped a teaser for her new song “Boyfriend,” out Friday (Aug. 2).
