Simon Fuller, founder of XIX Entertainment and creator of the Idol franchise, and TikTok announced on Friday (Aug. 7) that they will be partnering up in order to find music’s next supergroup.

The first-of-its-kind global music collective will be found through an in-app audition process on the popular video-sharing platform. Fuller will be looking through submissions for undiscovered talent, earning the hopeful artists a spot in the innovative group.

“TikTok has empowered self-expression and creativity and captured the hearts and minds of hundreds of millions of passionate users. The next generation of Pop Stars have eagerly embraced the platform,” Fuller said in a press statement. “With the help of the TikTok audience, I will bring together a line-up of incredible artists to shape the next level of Pop Fandom. This will be the most connected Pop Group ever, thriving on every platform and sharing their talent and positive energy with the world.”

It’s no secret that TikTok’s popularity has been a tool for discovering undeniable talent, with now-stars like mxmtoon starting out by posting covers on the app. Additionally, songs like Doja Cat’s “Say So,” DaBaby’s “Rockstar,” Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” and more have all seen countless TikTok clips thanks to dance challenges.

“It’s been nothing short of awe-inspiring to see the extraordinary musical talent – from up-and-coming artists to superstars like Lizzo, JLo and Justin Bieber – that shows up on TikTok every day and inspires even more creativity around the world,” said Kevin Mayer, TikTok CEO in a statement. “Together with Simon Fuller, we have the opportunity to find the next stars, many of whom are on TikTok today, and empower them to become a cultural phenomenon.”

Talent hoping for a spot in the music group should stay tuned on the TikTok app for audition details.
