Adele joined British Vogue on Monday (Oct. 18) for an afternoon blind-taste-testing British cuisine — but first, she made herself a cup of tea… the right way.
Before scarfing down cockles, kippers, pork pie, spotted dick and more, all while blindfolded, Adele showed everyone how she makes a cuppa — and it’s nothing like what she did in her “Hello” music video from 2015. In the classic sepia-toned visual, the British singer-songwriter is seen pouring boiling water in her floral china tea cup before delicately placing the tea bag inside, which got some fans’ blood boiling over the scene (and even caused #BoycottAdele to start trending on Twitter).
“I’m gonna show you how I like my cups of tea, which, contrary to the ‘Hello’ video — which actually I didn’t prepare that when I was filming it, someone else did — I like to brew the tea bag, add a bit of suga, bit of milk, stir it, stir it, stir it, ring it out, put it wherever you want,” she demonstrated in the new Vogue video before taking a sip.
She also shouted out famous U.K. television chef Jamie Oliver, who seems to be a major fan of her new single “Easy On Me,” for teaching her some kitchen tricks back in the day and revealed her very American “death row meal”: Chicken McNuggets, a Big Mac and fries. Maybe she’ll be the face of McDonald’s next musician-led campaign.
Oliver isn’t the only one delighting in Adele’s new single, which broke multiple records in less than 24 hours after it was released at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 14. “Easy On Me” became Spotify’s most-streamed song within a single day, beating out BTS’ previous record with “Butter,” which had more than 20.9 million global streams on May 23.
The song also debuted at No. 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 solely based on its first five hours of availability, but it’s expected to scale up the all-genre tally dated Oct. 30 following its first full week of tracking. “Easy” debuted on the Hot 100 with 3.1 million U.S. streams, 3.1 million airplay audience impressions and 14,800 sold in its first five hours, according to MRC Data.
