Over the last six years, actress Jennifer Lawrence and singer Adele have blossomed their friendship from being two famous entertainers admiring one another from a distance to becoming close friends.
Most recently, on Friday night (March 23) the two were spotted in New York City at a gay bar called “Pieces,” where they took part in drinking games and had fun with the crowd.
But Lawrence and Adele’s friendship goes back to 2013, where these buddies first kicked things off.
How did they get to become BFFs? Follow our timeline of their gal-pal friendship below.
February 2013 – Oscar’s
The pair first met at the 2013 Academy Awards, where Lawrence won a trophy for best actress in Silver Linings Playbook, and Adele was performing “Skyfall” on stage (it won for Best Original Song).
Lawrence took note of this moment in an essay she wrote for Adele’s entry in Time magazine’s 2016 100 Most Influential People issue.
“Adele and I met at the Oscars in 2013. I remember sneaking backstage while she performed “Skyfall,” trying to squeeze a ball gown past a pile of ropes and cables just to get a little closer. See her from another angle as if to peek behind the Great Oz’s curtain. I had been a fan of hers since ‘Chasing Pavements.'” Lawrence wrote.
January 2015 – Spotted at a West Hollywood Restaurant
The two were spotted at A-list hotspot Craig’s in West Hollywood, where Adele was dining with One Direction member Harry Styles and other members of her team, when Jennifer Lawrence appeared, sitting across the restaurant with a group of her girlfriends sipping a dirty martini. US reported that Adele went up to her booth to say ‘hello’ (of course) and chat, as well as exchange a few laughs.
November 2015 – Supporting Shows
The friendship continued as Jennifer Lawrence was spotted in the crowd supporting many of Adele’s shows, including the English singer’s sold-out Radio City concert, People reported.
November 2015 – Mexican Restaurant Dinner Date
Also during November, the pair were spotted out at dinner with Lawrence’s Hunger Games co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson at NYC’s Waverly Inn. Separately, Emma Stone was added to the mix, and was spotted with both Adele and Lawrence grabbing at Cosme Mexican in New York City, Vanity Fair reported at the time.
January 2016 – Lawrence Opens Up
In a 2016 interview with Glamour, Lawrence was asked about the recent dinner date, and she opened up about her friendship with both Emma Stone and Adele.
“I love Emma. She cracks me up; she’s so “theater.” She’s so adorable. And Adele and I met, like, a year or so ago. Adele and I are a bit harsher; Emma’s never had a bad thought about anybody in her life. It’s so weird; I don’t like new people. But these two women—and Amy—they’re really lovely. And they’re so normal. I feel like I’m hanging out with my friends—my friends that don’t give a f–k about what I do.”
April 2016 – Showtime In L.A.
Another Adele show, this time in Los Angeles. Lawrence brought along Emma Stone and her Hunger Games co-star Woody Harrelson.
January 2018 – United at the Women’s March
Though the two are not commonly seen together on social media, Lawrence took to Facebook while Adele shared a photo of themselves on Instagram from the 2018 Women’s March in Los Angeles.
February 2018
What better excuse than a birthday party for a little get-together. Ellen DeGeneres provided the best possible excuse with her 60th birthday party. Adele was there, so was Lawrence. Oprah, Pink, Chrissy Teigen and Justin Bieber were also in the house.
March 2019 – ‘Pieces’ Party
Most recently, Jennifer Lawrence and Adele were spotted together in New York City at drag bar “Pieces.” The duo surprised bar-goers, had fits and giggles (and drinks) all evening. And by many accounts — backed up by the photos shared on social media — it was a rowdy night out
