A new eight-song compilation benefitting international aid organization Global Citizen, Stand Up, features duet covers of iconic rock, pop, soul and Afrobeat songs from Tori Kelly and JoJo, PJ Morton and Yola and Andra Day and Chelsea Collins, among others.
The collection, executive produced by Raphael Saadiq, is intended to “restore hope, and inspire and celebrate the heroism of leaders and activists around the world,” according to a press release announcing the project.
The compilation is available now on all major streaming services; the Global Citizen Prize award special, hosted by John Legend, will air at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday (Dec. 19) on NBC.
“We are so incredibly grateful to Raphael Saadiq and the incredible artists who worked with us on this special album,” said Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans in a statement. “Music has always been at the heart of the Global Citizen movement, and we hope this album will inspire and celebrate people across the world who are working to make a difference.”
Short behind-the-scenes videos of the making of the album, including artist interviews, can be found on Spotify’s The Get Up podcast. “It was an honor to work on Stand Up with Global Citizen and such incredible artists, who all came together for this passion project in a year that has been so difficult for so many,” said Saadiq. “During this time, music has played a key role in keeping us all connected and my hope for those who listen is to feel empowered to create change.”
