A week after the debut of her anticipated Miley Cyrus Backyard Sessions special edition of MTV Unplugged, the 27-year-old singer dropped the full video for her moving cover of Pearl Jam’s 2009 ballad “Just Breathe” on Wednesday night. Backed by her masked band “The Social Distancers” in her Los Angeles backyard, Cyrus slaps some country soul on the emotional song while rocking a plunging neckline snakeskin gown, gold hoop earrings and green eyeshadow.
With two strummers picking out the song’s melody on acoustic guitars, Miley wraps her signature raspy twang around the tune about gratitude, keeping the evocative lyrics just as they are. “Oh, I’m a lucky man/ To count on both hands/ The ones I love/ Some folks just have one/ Yeah, others they got none/ Stay with me/ Just breathe,” she croons.
Miley has been on an epic covers run this year, taking on Blondie’s “Heart of Glass,” The Beatles’ “Help!” and The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry” and The Cranberries’ “Zombie” during a virtual Save Our Stages Fest in Los Angeles over the weekend. She also revealed in an Interview magazine chat that she’s working on a full Metallica covers album.
