Shawn Mendes keeps the love flowing with “If I Can’t Have You,” his first solo release since his 2018 self-titled album.
The Canadian pop star dropped the new track at midnight with its moody black and white video, which sees Mendes at his charming best at the mic, behind a grand piano and on a treadmill (really).
It’s a sweet, sweet pop number, on which he sings, “I’m in Toronto and I got this view/But I might as well be in a hotel room, yeah/It doesn’t matter ’cause I’m so consumed/Spending all my nights reading texts from you.”
Mendes wrote the song with collaborators Scott Harris, Teddy Geiger and Nate Mercreau and he’ll perform it for the first time on Saturday Night Live this Saturday (May 4).
The chart-topping star is currently enjoying the gap between the European and North America legs of his world tour.
