Australian fans were left stunned when Lorde unexpectedly attended a Sydney nightclub event dedicated entirely to her. The New Zealand artist, currently promoting her upcoming album Virgin, is in Australia as part of the promotional activities ahead of the album’s release next month.
The event, held at Mary’s Underground on Sunday, May 25, was titled What Was That: A Club Night Dedicated to Lorde and featured DJ Xeimma playing the singer’s tracks. “We’re officially in the L4 era, so it’s only right we throw a party for our true Lorde & saviour!” the venue posted online.
Video from the night shows Lorde arriving discreetly and mingling in the crowd, initially unnoticed except by a few attendees who greeted her. As more guests realized her presence, excitement erupted in the venue.
Lorde later joined the crowd on stage, dancing to her own songs and even stepping behind the DJ booth with Xeimma. “Still in disbelief. Feeling unbelievably grateful to Lorde for making this a night we’ll talk about for years,” the DJ wrote on Instagram.
“It’s official – Lorde came to my party on 25 May 2025,” she added. “After years of throwing events, this was one of the most rewarding nights of my life. Completely unmatched.”
Lorde had launched her new era with the track “What Was That” on April 24. Her album Virgin is set to be released on June 27. On May 19, she also revealed the artwork for her next single “Man Of The Year,” which she mentioned will arrive sometime this week. “An offering from really deep inside me,” she said of the song. “The song I’m proudest of on Virgin.”
