Charli XCX Believes She “Wasn’t Even on the Grammys’ Radar” Before ‘Brat’

Charli XCX is riding high on the success of Brat, which has earned her seven Grammy nominations this year — and she knows it’s all thanks to the album that made her a major figure in pop music.

In an interview for W Magazine’s cover story published on January 30, Charli shared her thoughts on the 2025 Grammy nominations, which include album of the year and best dance/electronic album for Brat, record of the year and best music video for “360,” best pop solo performance for “Apple,” best dance pop recording for “Von Dutch,” and best pop duo/group performance for the Billie Eilish remix of “Guess.” This recognition comes a decade after Charli’s first Grammy nods in 2015 for her collaboration with Iggy Azalea, “Fancy.” That year, the award for record of the year went to Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” and best pop duo/group performance was won by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera with “Say Something.”

“Let’s be real,” Charli confessed in the interview. “I wasn’t even on the Grammys’ radar last year, so it’s not something I ever expected.”

Currently, the “Boom Clap” singer is one of the artists with the second-highest number of nominations for the 2025 Grammys, tied with Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone, each with seven nominations. The only artist with more nominations is Beyoncé, who has 11 for her Cowboy Carter era going into the February 2 ceremony.

The competition for this year’s awards is fierce, with artists like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan all vying for wins alongside Charli in the album of the year category. However, Charli says she’s focused on enjoying the experience. “Wherever I am becomes fun anyway, so I’m sure I’ll figure it out,” she joked with W.

“My dream scenario would be getting a plus-10 so I could bring all my best friends,” Charli added. “Realistically, I’ll probably get a plus-one. Maybe Troye [Sivan] and I can share and make it a plus-two.”
